More than forty two percent of construction work on the Rs14 billion Katchery Chowk remodelling project has been completed within just two months, signalling steady progress on one of Rawalpindi’s most significant traffic infrastructure initiatives. Officials confirmed that the project remains on track for completion by the end of May 2026, offering long awaited relief to daily commuters.

The update was shared during a high level briefing at the commissioner’s office, chaired by Commissioner Amir Khattak. Authorities informed that the project involves the simultaneous construction of two flyovers and three underpasses at major junctions to efficiently manage traffic volumes exceeding 250,000 vehicles per day in the area.

One of the major components includes a four lane flyover connecting The Mall with Rashid Minhas Road, with an allocated cost of Rs5.974 billion. This section also features a wide underpass linking Old Airport Road to Saddar, serving nearly 197,000 vehicles daily and significantly easing congestion on this critical corridor.

Another key segment is the Annexy Chowk or Jinnah Park flyover and underpass project, costing Rs4.672 billion. Designed to handle over 142,000 vehicles per day, this structure will connect Mushtaq Baig Shaheed Road with Old Airport Road, alongside an underpass facilitating smoother movement from Katchery Chowk.

Additionally, a single barrel two lane underpass worth Rs2.688 billion is under construction from Iftikhar Janjua Road to Katchery Chowk. This underpass is engineered to manage more than 146,000 vehicles daily. Officials confirmed that guide beam and piling work across multiple sections has been completed, while retaining walls are nearing full completion.

Commissioner Amir Khattak expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work, directing all departments to maintain momentum without compromising construction standards. He emphasised effective traffic management and public convenience measures during construction, stating that the completed project will dramatically improve traffic flow and urban mobility in and around Katchery Chowk.
