ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority held a high level meeting with a delegation of the Asian Development Bank to review progress on the proposed Islamabad Inter City Bus Terminal and related urban transport initiatives. The meeting focused on strengthening sustainable mobility infrastructure in the federal capital through international cooperation and modern planning.
Senior CDA officials including Member Engineering Member Finance Director General Resource Management and other senior officers were present. The discussions covered multiple ongoing and proposed projects with special emphasis on the establishment of a state of the art inter city bus terminal aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving regional connectivity.
ADB consultants briefed the participants on the inter city bus terminal project and informed that the initial feasibility study has been completed. The consultants shared key findings on site planning passenger flow operational efficiency and integration with existing transport networks to ensure long term viability of the project.
The briefing further revealed that ADB is developing an optimal financial model for the Islamabad Inter City Bus Terminal to ensure sustainability and private sector participation where feasible. The project is planned to be fully integrated with Islamabad Metro Bus and electric feeder bus services to provide seamless connectivity for commuters.
Officials were informed that the terminal will include modern electric charging points to support electric buses as part of the capital’s shift towards clean and green transport solutions. ADB is also providing technical assistance for the preparation of Islamabad Transport Master Plan to align future mobility projects with environmental and urban development goals.
Chairman CDA said that all available resources are being utilised to provide citizens with environment friendly and high quality travel facilities. He added that the completion of the inter city bus terminal will significantly reduce traffic pressure on major roads of Islamabad. He also urged ADB to extend technical support for securing carbon credits for eco friendly projects and reaffirmed CDA’s commitment to fully benefit from ADB’s expertise and experience.
