RAWALPINDI: Police have arrested 13 young men for allegedly attacking a public electric bus and performing dangerous wheelie stunts on key Rawalpindi roads, intensifying a crackdown on reckless riding during late night hours in the city. Authorities also recovered sticks and seized seven motorcycles used in the incident.

According to police, the suspects were produced before a local court for remand to facilitate further investigation. Nine of the accused were granted one day physical remand and were to be presented again after completion of interrogation, while four underage boys were released in accordance with juvenile laws, the investigating officer confirmed.

The case was registered after Abdul Qadir Ali, captain of the green electric bus, lodged an FIR with Chaklala Police. He stated that around 300 to 400 youngsters intercepted the bus on Sunday night, pelting it with stones and striking it with sticks. The attack shattered a window and left one passenger injured, who was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Police officials said that most wheelie incidents occur after Sehri when traffic is minimal, particularly along Old Airport Road and in the Rahimabad area. Although routine patrolling continues throughout the night, officers admitted that riders exploit low traffic hours to perform stunts.

The City Traffic Police announced that special squads are operating round the clock across Rawalpindi to curb wheelie, racing and underage driving. Dedicated pickets have been established on major arteries to enhance road safety enforcement and prevent further incidents targeting public transport.

Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam said monitoring of mechanics who modify motorcycles for stunt riding is also underway. He urged parents to prevent minors from accessing motorcycles and called on citizens to report reckless riders to the traffic police helpline to ensure safer roads across Rawalpindi.
