ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has extended the deadline for installation of M Tags on motorcycles until March 5, offering residents additional time to comply with the mandatory electronic tagging initiative. Officials said the extension aims to facilitate citizens amid rising turnout at tagging centers across the federal capital.

According to the Excise and Taxation Department, 8,928 motorcycles have already been fitted with M Tags, including 2,069 bikes processed in the last 24 hours alone. Authorities reported a sharp surge in public response as the deadline approaches, with further increase expected in the coming days.

The M Tag system is being implemented for both vehicles and motorcycles to streamline verification, enhance enforcement and strengthen digital monitoring on roads. So far, 238,080 vehicles have been issued M Tags, reflecting steady progress in the capital wide compliance campaign.

Director General Excise said additional staff, counters and equipment have been deployed at major centers to manage growing demand. Selected facilities are operating round the clock, while others are functioning in 12 hour and 8 hour shifts depending on workload and location.

In view of Ramazan, working hours have been revised to ensure convenience for fasting citizens. Information desks have also been established to guide applicants regarding documentation and procedures, ensuring orderly processing and reduced waiting time.

Officials have made it clear that no further extension is expected beyond March 5. Motorcycle and vehicle owners failing to install M Tags before the deadline may face action under applicable regulations once enforcement begins.
