ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan met Tajikistan’s Ambassador Sharifzada Yusuf Toir to explore new trade routes and strengthen transport connectivity between Pakistan and Tajikistan. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and enhancing regional integration through improved infrastructure links.

Both sides reviewed existing economic ties and discussed fresh avenues to boost trade between South and Central Asia. The minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to positioning itself as a regional transit and connectivity hub, linking landlocked Central Asian states with global markets.

During the talks, the Tajik ambassador proposed a land corridor connecting Tajikistan to Pakistan via Gilgit. The proposed route would provide Tajikistan direct access to Pakistani ports while opening new trade channels for Pakistan into Central Asia. The envoy termed the corridor a strategic opportunity for long term economic cooperation.

Abdul Aleem Khan welcomed the proposal and highlighted the geo economic importance of Gilgit Baltistan in regional trade architecture. He stressed that modern road networks and streamlined transit systems could significantly reduce logistics costs and transit time, benefiting both countries.

The meeting also covered collaboration in road infrastructure development and freight connectivity. Both sides agreed to continue dialogue on practical steps to advance transport cooperation and unlock untapped trade potential.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Sharifzada Yusuf Toir invited Abdul Aleem Khan to visit Tajikistan to further discussions on connectivity initiatives. The minister appreciated the invitation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to deepen strategic and economic ties with Tajikistan.
