ISLAMABAD: In line with the government’s austerity and fuel conservation policy, the National Highways and Motorway Police has reduced the speed limits for vehicles on motorways and national highways across the country.
The decision has been taken following directions of the Government of Pakistan aimed at promoting efficient energy use and saving fuel. Officials said the move is part of broader measures being implemented on the instructions of Shehbaz Sharif to curb fuel consumption amid rising energy costs.
Under the revised limits, the maximum speed for cars and light transport vehicles (LTV) on motorways has been reduced from 120 km/h to 100 km/h. For passenger service vehicles (PSV) and heavy transport vehicles (HTV), the limit has been lowered from 110 km/h to 90 km/h.
Similarly, on national highways the speed limit for cars and LTVs has been reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h, while for PSVs and HTVs it has been brought down from 80 km/h to 65 km/h.
The motorway police said a nationwide awareness campaign has been launched to inform motorists about the revised speed limits and ensure compliance on motorways and highways. Officials added that strict enforcement would be carried out to support the government’s efforts to promote fuel efficiency and road safety.
