ISLAMABAD: Authorities have decided to reduce Islamabad’s road entry points from 109 to 25 to improve traffic management and strengthen security across the capital.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, with senior police and administrative officials reviewing checkpoint operations and city road management.
Officials said the plan will focus on key road corridors to ensure checkpoints function effectively rather than existing as routine barriers. Naqvi stressed that better control of entry routes will enhance law enforcement and traffic discipline.
The minister also instructed authorities to make the Red Zone road network fully operational through stronger monitoring and a comprehensive strategy.
Major roads will be cleared of unnecessary structures and encroachments, while assistant commissioners will oversee road cleanliness and smooth traffic flow in their respective areas.
Senior officials including the chief commissioner, IG Islamabad, deputy commissioner and other police officers discussed implementation of the plan to ensure secure and efficient movement across the capital.
