ISLAMABAD: In a major step toward transforming urban mobility, Capital Development Authority has accelerated plans for a state of the art National Bus Terminal in Sector I-11/4, aiming to modernize public transport infrastructure in the federal capital. The high level meeting was chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters on Monday.
Senior officials, including key members of administration, engineering, planning, and environment, attended the session where detailed deliberations were held on the proposed terminal. The project is being positioned as a flagship development to address growing transportation needs and streamline intercity travel operations in Islamabad.
According to the briefing, the National Bus Terminal will be constructed over 31 acres of land in Sector I-11/4. The facility is designed to accommodate more than 100 bus bays, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive transport hubs planned for the capital region.
The proposed design integrates commercial areas, petrol pumps, and extensive parking spaces for buses. In addition, service stations, taxi stands, and maintenance workshops will be established to ensure operational efficiency and convenience for commuters and transport operators alike.
A key feature of the project is its future connectivity with 11th Avenue, which is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and accessibility. Authorities also presented a detailed site plan and traffic management strategy to ensure seamless movement within and around the terminal.
Chairman CDA directed officials to pursue an open architectural competition to finalize a world class design, while also expediting the hiring of consultants. He emphasized the need for a robust financial and operational model and called for stakeholder engagement to ensure timely execution. The project is expected to elevate travel standards and provide modern, efficient, and reliable transport facilities to residents of Islamabad.
