RAWALPINDI: Roads leading to Murree are set to face extreme pressure as authorities brace for a massive Eidul Fitr rush, with hundreds of thousands of tourists expected to flood the hill station. In response, a comprehensive traffic management and safety plan has been rolled out to prevent gridlock and ensure smooth vehicular movement.

District Police Officer Muhammad Raza Tanveer issued a travel advisory, urging commuters to plan their journeys carefully and avoid peak hours. Tourists have been strongly advised to use the Safe Tourism Murree to access real time traffic updates, emergency services, and route guidance.

Traffic data from previous Eid holidays highlights the scale of the challenge, with tens of thousands of vehicles entering Murree daily, far exceeding the official capacity of 8,000 vehicles. During peak days, traffic volumes surged dramatically, resulting in severe congestion and long delays on key roads.

To manage the expected surge, over 200 traffic wardens and officers have been deployed across major entry points and internal routes. A dedicated control room has been established at Sunny Bank to monitor traffic flow and respond quickly to any disruptions, aiming to keep roads operational under heavy load.

Weather conditions are expected to add further strain, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms during the holidays. Drivers have been warned to exercise caution on slippery and fog prone roads, which could increase the risk of accidents.

Authorities stressed that strict compliance with traffic rules will be critical to avoid chaos. With unprecedented pressure on Murree’s road network, officials are counting on public cooperation to maintain order and ensure that the holiday rush does not turn into a traffic nightmare.
