LAHORE: Punjab is set to redefine mountain tourism as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the province’s first sky glass bridge in Murree, marking a major leap toward high value tourism infrastructure. The landmark project aims to attract both domestic and international visitors seeking unique scenic experiences.

The approval came during a high level review meeting on the Murree Protection and Rehabilitation Plan, where authorities also agreed to bring in international experts to tackle persistent landslide challenges. The initiative signals a shift toward sustainable and resilient development in the fragile hill station.

Alongside the glass bridge, the government unveiled an ambitious roadmap to upgrade Murree’s tourism ecosystem. Three new hospitality zones will be developed in suburban areas, featuring high end hotels through public private partnerships. These zones are expected to significantly boost local economy and visitor capacity.

Infrastructure upgrades were also prioritised, with key roads including Jhika Gali Road and Reach Bil Road set for expansion to ease traffic congestion. Authorities have been directed to fast track construction activities, including the proposed glass train project, which is expected to become another major attraction.

The development plan extends beyond tourism into environmental management and urban planning. New parks, a zoological eco zone and modern recreational facilities will be established to enhance visitor experience while preserving natural beauty. Wildlife conservation features and eco friendly initiatives are also part of the broader vision.

Officials say the transformation of Murree into a modern tourism hub is being driven by integrated planning and strict timelines. With projects like the sky glass bridge and upgraded road network, the region is positioning itself as a premier destination, combining adventure, accessibility and sustainable growth.
