ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has welcomed the signing of a strategic agreement between the Asian Development Bank and the National Highway Authority for the construction of the M6 Motorway connecting Karachi to Sukkur, terming it a major milestone for Pakistan’s infrastructure development.

Congratulating the nation, the minister described the project as a gateway to future economic growth and prosperity. He said the long delayed initiative has finally moved forward, marking a breakthrough after decades of stagnation.

Abdul Aleem Khan highlighted that the government succeeded in reviving the project within two years of focused efforts, despite it remaining stalled for over three decades. He termed the M6 Motorway the missing economic link in Pakistan’s North South corridor.

He noted that once completed, the motorway will transform the national transport network by enabling seamless connectivity from Karachi Port to northern regions including Peshawar and Gilgit through a continuous motorway system.

The 306 kilometer six lane project will feature modern tolling systems, enhanced safety infrastructure, 15 interchanges and 10 service areas to support both commuters and commercial transport. Key sections between Hyderabad and Nawabshah will be developed under a public private partnership model.

The minister added that financing for other sections has already been secured through international partners, and the entire project is expected to be completed within two years, strengthening trade routes and boosting regional connectivity.
