ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, along with Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, chaired a key meeting to launch a large scale plantation drive along both sides of motorways across the country.
The high level meeting focused on transforming motorways into green corridors as part of the government’s broader environmental and climate resilience strategy. Officials discussed practical steps to enhance tree cover, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the overall landscape of national highways.
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that motorway infrastructure should not only serve transportation needs but also contribute to environmental sustainability. He stressed the importance of coordinated planning to ensure long term impact and proper maintenance of planted areas.
Musadik Malik highlighted the urgent need to combat climate change through proactive measures, noting that plantation along motorways can significantly help in reducing pollution levels and mitigating environmental degradation.
The meeting also reviewed potential partnerships with relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the initiative. Authorities explored the use of modern irrigation systems and selection of suitable plant species to ensure higher survival rates.
Officials concluded that the plantation campaign would be launched in phases, with strict monitoring mechanisms in place. The initiative is expected to enhance environmental protection efforts while improving the visual appeal of Pakistan’s motorway network.
