ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan met with Syed Mehdi Shah to discuss road infrastructure, connectivity challenges and emergency services in Gilgit Baltistan, with both leaders expressing satisfaction over Pakistan’s recent diplomatic progress.
During the meeting, the governor appreciated the performance of the National Highway Authority, acknowledging improvements in highway development and maintenance across key routes in the region. He also highlighted several challenges related to transport and communication infrastructure that require urgent attention.
Abdul Aleem Khan assured full cooperation to address these issues, emphasising the government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity in Gilgit Baltistan. He announced that steps would be taken to introduce emergency Rescue 1122 services on major highways to ensure timely response during accidents and emergencies.
The minister noted that improving road safety and providing rapid emergency assistance are essential components of modern infrastructure development, particularly in mountainous regions where travel risks remain high.
Both leaders also exchanged views on enhancing coordination between federal and regional authorities to accelerate ongoing and future road projects. The meeting underscored the importance of infrastructure development in boosting tourism and economic activity in Gilgit Baltistan.
Officials said the assurance of emergency services marks a significant step towards safer highways, reflecting the government’s broader vision of integrated and responsive transport systems across Pakistan.
