ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired a high level meeting with transport ministers from all four provinces, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir to align a unified national transport strategy aimed at boosting connectivity and economic growth.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders to address challenges in interprovincial transport coordination, road infrastructure development and policy harmonisation. Participants emphasised the need for a cohesive framework to ensure seamless movement of goods and passengers across regions.
Abdul Aleem Khan stressed that improved coordination between federal and provincial authorities is essential to eliminate logistical bottlenecks and enhance efficiency in the transport sector. He directed all departments to adopt a results driven approach with strict timelines for ongoing and future projects.
The session also reviewed progress on major highway and motorway initiatives under the National Highway Authority, with a focus on timely completion, transparency and quality standards. The minister warned against delays and called for enhanced monitoring mechanisms to ensure accountability.
Discussions further highlighted the need to standardise toll systems, improve road safety measures and optimise resource allocation. Special attention was given to connecting remote and underdeveloped regions with the national highway network to promote inclusive development.
Officials said the meeting signals a strong push by the government to modernise Pakistan’s transport infrastructure and strengthen its position as a regional trade corridor. Further policy decisions are expected as consultations continue with all stakeholders.
