ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has made it mandatory to install electric vehicle charging stations at nearly all 138 fuel stations in Islamabad, accelerating the capital’s transition toward clean and sustainable transport. The move aims to strengthen electric vehicle infrastructure and position Islamabad as a leading city for green mobility investment.
The decision was discussed during a high level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, which was attended by senior officials and a delegation of Chinese investors. The meeting focused on expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure and attracting foreign investment in the sector.
Under newly adopted regulations, all existing filling stations will be required to install at least one electric vehicle charging point, while new fuel stations must establish a minimum of two charging points. In addition, commercial buildings are now required to allocate three percent of their space for electric vehicle charging facilities.
Chairman Randhawa said the implementation of these regulations is being strictly ensured to promote environmentally responsible urban transport. He highlighted the vast potential for investment in Islamabad’s electric vehicle market and stressed the importance of modern charging networks to support the growing number of electric cars and bikes.
The Chinese delegation expressed readiness to cooperate in establishing advanced charging stations and introducing innovative technology in the federal capital. Officials described the engagement as part of broader efforts to create a conducive environment for clean energy investment.
The CDA reaffirmed its commitment to expanding electric vehicle charging hubs across Islamabad, emphasizing that improved infrastructure will reduce carbon emissions, support sustainable mobility and align the capital with global environmental standards.
