ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has launched an anti encroachment operation to reclaim land reserved for a public park near Khadda Market in Sector G 7, aiming to restore the facility for residents in accordance with the city’s master plan.

Officials said the land adjacent to Khadda Market was originally designated as a public park but had been illegally occupied for years by mechanics associated with nearby auto workshops and residents of an adjoining informal settlement. The illegal structures had gradually transformed the park area into a mix of residential and commercial spaces.

During a recent inspection and detailed survey conducted by the civic agency, authorities found that several unauthorized constructions had been built on the park land. Initial findings revealed that mechanics had constructed 12 rooms on the designated park site which were being used for both residential and commercial purposes.

The survey also identified portions of nearby houses from the adjoining settlement extending into the park area. These encroachments had severely compromised the park’s intended purpose and deprived residents of a vital recreational facility for a long period.

Taking notice of public complaints, the CDA decided to initiate action to restore the park to its original status. Authorities issued advance notices to all illegal occupants, granting them time to voluntarily vacate the land before the start of enforcement action.

After the deadline expired, the authority launched a coordinated operation in the area. Officials said nine illegal structures have so far been demolished while the remaining encroachments will be removed in the coming days as part of the ongoing drive to recover public land and provide Islamabad residents with a healthy recreational environment.
