ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority has accelerated plans to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Islamabad as Chinese investors expressed interest in supporting clean energy and smart technology projects in the federal capital. The development came during a meeting between CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and a delegation of Chinese investors at the CDA headquarters.
Senior officials including Additional Secretary Joudat Ayaz, Member Administration Talat Mehmood and Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafiz attended the meeting where discussions focused on promoting electric charging stations and introducing innovative technology to support sustainable urban development in Islamabad.
Chairman Randhawa said Islamabad offers strong investment potential in electric mobility and charging infrastructure. He noted that CDA has already adopted regulations requiring the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities across the city and authorities are now ensuring strict implementation of these rules.
Under the regulations, commercial buildings are required to allocate three percent space for electric vehicle charging facilities. In addition, charging stations must be established at nearly all 138 fuel stations in the federal capital. Existing filling stations will be required to install at least one charging point while new stations must install a minimum of two charging points.
The CDA chief said planning is also underway to establish dedicated electric charging hubs at multiple locations in Islamabad to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles. The Chinese delegation assured full cooperation in developing charging infrastructure and introducing modern technologies that can accelerate Islamabad’s transition to clean mobility.
During the meeting, investors also briefed officials about 3D printed housing technology designed to promote affordable and eco friendly construction. Chairman Randhawa directed authorities to prepare a feasibility study for the technology and emphasized the importance of technology transfer to promote modern green housing and sustainable development in Islamabad.
