ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting was held at the Capital Development Authority Headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to review and strengthen the solid waste management system in the Federal Capital. Senior officials from CDA and the district administration attended the meeting.
The participants included CDA Board Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, Director General Environment, and other relevant officers. The meeting focused on addressing current sanitation challenges and planning long-term sustainable solutions.
Chairman CDA emphasized the authority’s commitment to adopting immediate and environmentally sustainable measures to improve cleanliness across Islamabad. He stated that an efficient solid waste management system is essential for public health and for maintaining the city’s image as a modern capital.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that the outsourcing process for solid waste management services is progressing swiftly. Separate packages covering both urban and rural areas have been developed. The new system will include both primary and secondary waste collection to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Chairman CDA directed strict enforcement against illegal dumping and waste littering. He ordered the imposition of fines and legal action against violators. The meeting also reviewed the upgradation of the existing transfer station and plans for establishing additional transfer stations across the city.
Furthermore, Chairman Randhawa instructed officials to expedite work on a modern scientific landfill site. He stressed that the new landfill must follow international standards and environmental best practices. He concluded that these initiatives will significantly contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Islamabad.
