RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Commissioner Amir Khattak conducted an on-site inspection of the Katchery Chowk remodeling project on Monday, reviewing progress across key construction areas. The visit highlighted the ongoing efforts to transform the busy intersection into a modern, safe, and efficient urban interchange.
During the inspection, project officials briefed the commissioner on the current status of construction. Work at Iftikhar Janjua Chowk is reported 30 percent complete, while Katchery Chowk and the Jinnah Park underpass have each reached 35 percent completion. Retaining wall construction has achieved 91 percent, and utility duct installation stands at 44 percent, bringing the overall project completion to 44 percent.
Commissioner Khattak expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the ongoing work. He instructed the project team to ensure all construction activities adhere strictly to approved designs and timelines. Daily progress monitoring was emphasized, along with immediate rectification of any identified issues to maintain project efficiency.
Traffic management and public convenience were key points of focus during the visit. The commissioner directed strict implementation of traffic diversion plans, clear marking of alternative routes, and timely public awareness campaigns to minimize inconvenience for commuters.
Quality and safety standards were also highlighted. High-quality materials must be used in the construction of underground utility ducts, drainage systems, and retaining walls. Safety equipment for workers, installation of signboards, and protective barriers are mandatory to prevent accidents, while site cleanliness and discipline must be maintained at all times.
Commissioner Khattak concluded that upon completion, the Katchery Chowk project will significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall aesthetics of Rawalpindi city. The upgraded interchange is expected to play a pivotal role in the urban development and modernization of the city, benefiting residents and commuters alike.
