Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Tuesday conducted a detailed visit to the Islamabad Murree Expressway to assess the pace of ongoing rehabilitation, beautification and improvement works. The inspection aimed to ensure that the corridor is upgraded to meet modern travel standards and offer a safer and more pleasant experience for commuters and tourists who regularly use this important route.
During the visit, the minister inspected rest areas along the expressway and directed officials to enhance public facilities with a focus on cleanliness, safety and accessibility. He emphasised that all amenities including seating areas, washrooms, parking zones and emergency services must be upgraded to facilitate both local travelers and visitors heading toward the Murree region.
Abdul Aleem Khan instructed the Secretary Communications to personally oversee the ongoing works and to maintain strict monitoring to ensure high quality standards throughout the rehabilitation process. He stressed that road infrastructure must meet national benchmarks and be completed with long term durability in mind. He also highlighted that this expressway holds significant importance for tourism and daily travel between Islamabad and Murree.
The federal minister further directed that all pending activities on the Islamabad Murree Expressway be completed without delay. He urged the concerned departments to resolve outstanding matters swiftly so that the project can reach timely completion. The goal is to enhance safety measures, improve driving conditions and restore the corridor with better landscaping and structural upgrades.
Officials from the National Highway Authority briefed the minister about the progress made so far and shared details on the remaining components of the rehabilitation plan. They informed him about improvements in road surfaces, repair of damaged sections, installation of safety barriers and enhancement of road signage along the route.
Abdul Aleem Khan reiterated the government’s commitment to modernising national highways and improving travel routes across the country. He expressed confidence that once completed, the Islamabad Murree Expressway project will significantly improve travel comfort, promote tourism and contribute to overall road safety for millions of passengers each year.
