ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday refused to grant an immediate stay on the installation of MTags on motorcycles and directed the concerned authorities to submit their responses within seven days. The petition challenging the policy was heard by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar.
During the hearing, the chief justice observed that the MTag system is intended to help authorities identify motor vehicles and improve registration tracking. Addressing the petitioner’s counsel, he remarked that the initiative has been introduced for public benefit and to ensure proper identification of motorcycles operating on the roads.
The court noted that the MTag initiative falls within the domain of government policy. After brief arguments, the bench rejected the request for an urgent stay order and instructed the respondents to submit a detailed reply within a week before further proceedings in the case.
