ISLAMABAD: Authorities imposed sweeping traffic restrictions across the federal capital, sealing the Red Zone and closing key roads amid heightened security following high level US Iran talks, causing major disruption for commuters in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
According to the traffic advisory, entry into the Red Zone and surrounding مناطق has been restricted to official vehicles only. Major routes including Kashmir Chowk towards Serena Chowk and sections of Srinagar Highway remained closed, forcing commuters to rely on alternative routes.
Motorists from Bhara Kahu were directed to use Club Road via Kashmir Chowk, while those travelling from Murree Road were diverted through the same corridor. Despite closures, certain arteries including Faisal Avenue, Margalla Road and routes linking Nawaz Chowk to F Seven Markaz remained open to ease traffic flow.
Srinagar Highway remained partially shut from Seventh Avenue Bridge to Serena Chowk, although traffic between Zero Point and Seventh Avenue continued to operate. Authorities maintained that these measures were necessary to ensure security until the departure of all foreign delegates.
Meanwhile, confusion and lack of coordination in Rawalpindi added to public frustration. Traders reported conflicting instructions from administration and police, leading to repeated opening and closure of markets in Saddar, Raja Bazaar and areas around Nur Khan Airbase.
Residents also faced shortages of essential items as prolonged closures disrupted daily life. Commuters reported severe congestion on key routes due to container placements and diversions, highlighting the impact of security arrangements on شہری mobility and routine economic activity.
