ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory administration has announced February 28 as the final date for motorcycle owners to install M-Tags under the second phase of the citywide registration drive. Authorities warned that motorcycles without M-Tags will not be allowed on roads from March 1 and will be impounded by police.
The initiative aims to enhance vehicle monitoring and public safety across the federal capital. Officials from the Directorate of Excise and Taxation urged riders to complete registration before the deadline to avoid penalties. Enforcement teams will begin full-scale action immediately after February 28.
According to the Excise Department, more than 2,000 motorcycles have already received M-Tags during the ongoing second phase. The administration expects this number to increase as the deadline approaches, emphasizing the importance of timely compliance.
To facilitate citizens, M-Tag centres will remain operational on weekends and holidays. Additional staff have been deployed at registration centres to handle the anticipated rise in applications and to reduce waiting times for vehicle owners. Applicants are advised to arrive early and carry standard ownership documents to complete the registration process efficiently.
The Director General of Excise confirmed that the campaign is part of a broader strategy to strengthen vehicle identification, tracking, and record management in Islamabad. Officials stressed that the system will support law enforcement during routine checks, investigations, and emergency responses.
Authorities appealed to motorcycle owners to cooperate with the drive and ensure compliance before the February 28 deadline. Public participation, they noted, is essential for making the city safer and for smooth implementation of government initiatives. Non-compliant vehicles will be shifted to police custody from March 1, making timely registration crucial for all riders.
