ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated a major drive to upgrade roads, footpaths, and commercial buildings across the federal capital. The ambitious campaign targets both residential sectors and commercial marakiz, aiming to provide safer, modern infrastructure and improved facilities for citizens. The plan was outlined in a high-level meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters.
Senior officials from CDA, including Members for Administration, Engineering, Planning and Design, and Environment, briefed the chairman on ongoing projects. Work is underway to repair and widen roads, renovate footpaths, and enhance parking and pedestrian facilities in residential and commercial areas. Upgradation of Class-III shopping centers and other commercial buildings is progressing, with a focus on structural improvements, safety, and modern design standards.
CDA has prioritized the installation of clear signboards, lane markings, and digital parking systems across key commercial hubs. Landscaping and beautification efforts are also underway to improve the visual appeal of roads, intersections, and public spaces, creating a more organized and user-friendly urban environment.
Chairman Randhawa instructed the construction of dedicated bicycle lanes along major footpaths and pedestrian walkways in key marakiz to encourage safe, eco-friendly transport. He also emphasized the repair and modernization of manholes, kerb stones, sewerage, and drainage systems to improve road safety and functionality.
Authorities have been directed to remove illegal constructions and encroachments that obstruct roads and compromise building standards. Special attention will also be given to city entry points, commercial marakiz, and streets to ensure cleanliness and accessibility throughout Islamabad.
Chairman Randhawa stressed that all projects must meet strict deadlines and high-quality standards. He reaffirmed that the rehabilitation of roads and commercial buildings remains a top CDA priority, with all resources mobilized to transform Islamabad into a modern, well-planned, and citizen-focused capital.
