ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police has launched a fact finding inquiry after officials allegedly allowed television anchor Mansoor Ali Khan to leave without a ticket despite being intercepted for overspeeding on the motorway.
Officials said the incident occurred on February 28 near Chakri Interchange during a routine speed monitoring operation. A patrol team detected a vehicle travelling well above the prescribed speed limit during the checking drive.
The vehicle was initially signalled to stop by Inspector Waseem Murtaza and Sub Inspector Saadat Hassan but the driver allegedly continued driving. The car was later intercepted near Islamabad by Inspector Faraz Mehdi who managed to stop the vehicle and verify the driver’s identity.
Sources said another officer, Inspector Azhar Latif, also reached the location where the driver was reportedly recognised as Mansoor Ali Khan. Despite the recorded violation, the anchor was allegedly allowed to leave the scene without being issued a challan or facing enforcement action.
The matter came under scrutiny after details of the incident circulated on social media, prompting attention within the department. Officials said the inquiry has been initiated to determine whether standard enforcement procedures were ignored by officers present at the scene.
Authorities said the probe will review the sequence of events surrounding the interception and examine why no legal action was taken despite the violation. The inquiry will also assess reports that the vehicle’s number plate was not registered with the Excise Department. Findings are expected to be submitted to senior officials in the coming days.
