ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel on Wednesday directed the Capital Development Authority to immediately clear long pending land and built up property compensation cases of residents whose land had been acquired decades ago. The committee expressed concern that unresolved claims had stalled development in several key sectors of the Federal Capital.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control chaired by MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz reviewed a calling attention notice submitted by MNAs Anjum Ageel Khan and Malik Ibrar Ahmed. The notice highlighted serious delays in compensation payments for land acquired in Sectors E12 C13 C14 C15 C16 and H16. Sector E12 acquired in the nineteen seventies and eighties remains incomplete even after thirty six years of its formal launch in nineteen eighty nine due to unresolved built up property issues.

Officials told the committee that the CDA must clear all genuine pending cases while rejecting fraudulent claims. They noted that despite the CDA chairman’s recent directions to the Deputy Commissioner CDA Sardar Asif to expedite resolution of all legitimate claims several cases still require urgent attention. Sectors acquired in two thousand eight under the land sharing formula also remain affected due to pending built up property disputes.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa informed the committee that initial consultations had been held with the movers of the notice but further discussions were required. The committee directed him to convene a meeting on December two with MNAs Anjum Ageel Khan Ibrar Ahmed Ageel Malik and Syed Rafiullah to finalize solutions and submit a report in the next session.

The committee also addressed issues concerning Parliament Lodges and Blue Area Food Street. Members noted that several workers at Parliament Lodges had not been receiving the government mandated minimum wage. The committee directed the CDA to ensure payments through bank transfers or cheques for transparency and the CDA agreed to comply. It also instructed the authority to consult traders and submit a report on the proposed Blue Area Food Street.

Additionally the committee reviewed matters related to the Intelligence Bureau Employees Cooperative Housing Society and Gulberg Greens. The ICT Circle Registrar reported pending government dues and the committee ordered immediate clearance. It further instructed housing societies to compensate for damaged roads or gas pipelines and directed IBECHS to obtain all required SNGPL NOCs and provide complete details of plots and allotments in Gulberg Greens and Gulberg Residencia.
