ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday praised the performance of the National Highway Authority during a high level review meeting, commending Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and his team for improving operational efficiency and strengthening highway management across Pakistan.
Chairing the meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister was briefed on the authority’s ongoing reforms, financial performance and progress on major road infrastructure schemes. Officials informed the premier that the NHA had significantly improved revenue collection through better toll management, transparency measures and administrative reforms.
The meeting was told that digital toll collection through the M Tag system has expanded across the motorway network, helping reduce congestion at toll plazas while improving monitoring and efficiency in revenue collection.
Officials also highlighted improved enforcement of axle load regulations on highways and motorways. Authorities said stricter implementation will help prevent road damage caused by overloaded vehicles and extend the lifespan of national transport infrastructure.
Participants were further informed about progress on several road development projects and upgrades across the national highway network aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating smoother traffic flow.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of the communications ministry and NHA leadership and directed authorities to ensure that all ongoing road and motorway projects are completed within stipulated timelines while maintaining high construction and safety standards.
