RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority launched a major anti encroachment operation along Double Road and Stadium Road on the directions of Commissioner Rawalpindi and Director General RDA Abdul Aamer Khattak. The enforcement action was carried out to restore public spaces and ensure smooth traffic flow on one of the city’s busiest corridors.

The RDA Enforcement Squad conducted the operation with the joint support of the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation and the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority Force. Heavy machinery was deployed to remove illegal structures that were obstructing roads and footpaths.

During the drive, unauthorised sheds, roadside tandoors, temporary platforms and other encroachments were demolished. Officials said the operation aimed to eliminate obstructions that were causing traffic bottlenecks and hindering pedestrian movement along Stadium Road.

Authorities also engaged with shopkeepers and property owners during the action, sensitising them about the importance of preserving public land and strictly adhering to approved building plans. Officials emphasised that commercial activities must remain within legal boundaries to maintain order and urban discipline.

The RDA stated that strict legal action will be taken against repeat violators and warned that illegal occupation of public land will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The crackdown is part of a broader strategy to modernise city infrastructure, reduce congestion and improve the overall aesthetics of Rawalpindi.

Citizens have been encouraged to report illegal constructions through the RDA hotline to facilitate prompt action. The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean, organised and accessible urban environment and urged residents to cooperate by refraining from establishing unauthorised structures in the city.
