RAWALPINDI: A major rural uplift initiative has been launched as the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company begins development work in key villages of Rawalpindi district, aiming to bridge the urban rural divide through modern infrastructure.
Work has commenced in Goraghpur and Chak Beli Khan, where residents will receive essential services including clean water supply, sewerage systems and improved street infrastructure. Officials say the initiative is designed to enhance living standards and ensure access to basic civic amenities in underserved areas.
Chief Executive Officer Khurram Parvez reviewed the progress during a field visit, assessing construction quality, drainage systems and operational efficiency. He directed teams to maintain strict standards and complete projects within the stipulated timelines.
The programme is part of a broader provincial strategy under Maryam Nawaz, with support from the World Bank, targeting modern water and sanitation facilities in around 2,000 villages across Punjab.
Under the Misali Gaoun Programme, over 450 villages are being upgraded with urban standard infrastructure. Officials believe this model will significantly improve public health, sanitation and economic activity in rural communities.
Authorities emphasised that community participation and timely payment of user charges are essential for sustainability. With expansion plans already underway for additional villages, the initiative signals a major push towards long term rural development and improved service delivery.
