RAWALPINDI: A 21 year old youth lost his life after drowning in a lake located within a private housing society in the Airport police jurisdiction, triggering serious questions over safety failures and regulatory oversight within housing societies. The victim, identified as Mehtab Danish from Wah Cantt, was reportedly bathing in the lake when the incident occurred.
Police registered a case following a complaint that alleged the housing society had failed to install basic safety measures. There was no protective wall, fencing or warning system around the lake despite it being a known spot frequently visited by residents for bathing and fishing.
The complainant accused the housing society management and site officials of gross negligence, arguing that the absence of safeguards directly led to the tragedy. The incident has intensified concerns over unchecked development practices in housing societies, with calls for strict legal action and enforcement of safety regulations.
