RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi achieved a major sanitation milestone during Eidul Azha as more than 12,130 tons of animal waste were removed across the district in one of the largest cleanliness operations ever carried out in the city. The massive campaign, led by the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company, ensured that residential areas, markets and public spaces remained clean despite the enormous volume of sacrificial waste generated during the three day festival.

More than 6,340 sanitation workers, supported by 1,066 vehicles and heavy machinery, remained on duty throughout the operation. All staff leave was suspended to maintain uninterrupted services, while special monitoring teams worked around the clock to ensure swift collection and disposal of waste from every corner of the district.

Authorities said over 1,500 public complaints were received during Eid and were resolved without delay. The operation began a night before Eid and continued for four consecutive days. Temporary waste transfer stations established for the festival were dismantled after completion of the campaign and thoroughly washed with rose water before lime was spread to eliminate odors and prevent the spread of germs.

RWMC Managing Director Rana Sajid Safdar visited multiple locations on the third day of Eid, reviewing field operations and appreciating sanitation workers for their dedication. He also distributed sweets among workers, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining cleanliness during one of the busiest periods of the year.

MNA Tahira Aurangzeb described the campaign as a practical reflection of the vision for a cleaner Punjab. Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema said effective monitoring, rapid response systems and modern waste management strategies helped maintain a healthy environment throughout the Eid holidays.

Meanwhile, thousands of residents from Rawalpindi and Islamabad flocked to parks, picnic spots and tourist destinations after completing Eid festivities. Popular attractions including Ayub National Park, Jinnah Park, Lake View Park, Murree, Pir Sohawa and Daman e Koh witnessed heavy crowds, while traffic in Murree remained largely under control due to extensive deployment of traffic wardens.
