ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take back control of 140 acres of prime land near Chak Shahzad that was earlier allotted to the Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA) for the Islamabad Technopolis project. The land, originally designated for a cutting edge technology park, will now be developed and auctioned directly by the CDA.

According to sources, the CDA’s move aims to accelerate development and ensure better financial returns for the civic body. The authority believes it can independently oversee infrastructure works and attract investors through a transparent auction process, while the STZA will continue to serve as the facilitator and licensing authority for the technology zone.

Officials familiar with the decision said the change in strategy comes after months of slow progress and bureaucratic hurdles that had delayed the project. By taking charge of development and land management, the CDA hopes to kickstart Islamabad Technopolis as a high value investment hub rather than leaving it dormant under administrative delays.

The reclaimed land, situated in a rapidly expanding urban corridor near Chak Shahzad, is considered one of the most valuable parcels in the capital region. Plans are underway to design a modern technology enclave equipped with smart infrastructure, green spaces, and business ready facilities aimed at attracting global tech firms and startups.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa has directed concerned departments to finalize the new development framework swiftly. “This initiative will position Islamabad as a regional technology hub and generate substantial economic activity,” an official quoted him as saying.

With CDA’s renewed ownership and STZA’s regulatory support, the Islamabad Technopolis project is set for a strategic reset, one that could redefine the capital’s role in Pakistan’s technology driven future.
