ISLAMABAD: The Sub-Committee of the Senate House Committee on Parliamentary Lodges on Friday expressed strong concern over the absence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman and postponed its formal proceedings.
The meeting, chaired by Senator Nasir Mehmood, was called to review progress on the construction of new Parliamentary Lodges. However, the CDA chairman—who also serves as the Chief Commissioner Islamabad—did not attend due to another official engagement, prompting members to defer the session.
Following the postponement, the committee members visited the site of the new Parliamentary Lodges to inspect the model apartment. During the visit, the members expressed dissatisfaction over delays in completing the model apartment despite clear directions issued in the previous meeting held on October 15.
They also identified several design and quality deficiencies in the partially completed unit and directed CDA officials and the contractor to rectify them immediately. The committee set October 30 as the new deadline for completing the model apartment in accordance with the approved design.
The sub-committee scheduled its next meeting for the same date to review on-site progress and reiterated that the CDA chairman must personally attend and brief members on earlier issues.
Members further voiced displeasure over the non-submission of the Technical Committee’s inquiry report regarding maintenance and renovation works in the existing Parliamentary Lodges, despite repeated directions and commitments by the CDA.
They emphasised that quality standards must be upheld and the new lodges project completed within the stipulated timeframe to avoid further delays.
