Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Rawalpindi on Tuesday and held an important meeting at the Commissioner Office to review ongoing development projects across the city. Parliamentary Secretary Chaudhry Naeem Ijaz and MPA Imran Ilyas Mohsin Ayub accompanied her throughout the visit, highlighting the political and administrative significance of the engagements. The meeting focused on accelerating infrastructure improvements and expanding public facilities in Rawalpindi.

Following the meeting, Maryam Nawaz reached Saddar where she inaugurated the new electric bus service, a major addition to the citys public transport network. The event attracted significant attention as the project represents the first large scale shift toward a clean and modern mobility system for local commuters. The chief minister was briefed on the routes, facilities, and long term plan for expanding the electric fleet.

The newly launched service introduces forty five fully electric buses that will operate on four dedicated routes across Rawalpindi. Key destinations include Saddar, Fawara Chowk, Munawar Colony, Old Airport Road, Motorway Chowk, and several high traffic corridors. The buses are equipped with air conditioning, high quality CCTV monitoring, free internet connectivity, and charging ports, providing a safe and modern travel experience for citizens.

During the launch ceremony, Maryam Nawaz announced a subsidized fare of only twenty rupees per ride. She also approved free travel for women, students, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. The initiatives aim to expand affordable mobility and ensure equal access to reliable transportation for all segments of society.

In her remarks, the chief minister said that Rawalpindi is entering a new phase of urban development. She shared plans for a major signal free corridor, upgraded drainage and sewage systems, and construction of a cancer hospital. These projects will enhance citywide connectivity and significantly improve public services.

Maryam Nawaz also emphasized the environmental benefits of expanding the electric bus network. The project is expected to reduce harmful emissions and noise levels in densely populated areas. She reiterated her governments commitment to modernizing urban transport and delivering sustainable solutions that support both economic growth and public welfare.
