ISLAMABAD: Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa has assured full cooperation for the establishment of the Aga Khan University (AKU) Teaching Hospital in Islamabad, a project expected to reshape the healthcare landscape of the Federal Capital.

The assurance came during a meeting with Aziz Jan, Chief of Facilities and Administrative Services at Aga Khan University, at the CDA Headquarters. The two sides discussed progress on the proposed state-of-the-art teaching and tertiary care hospital, envisioned to enhance both medical services and education in Islamabad.

Randhawa said the project would mark a major advance in the city’s healthcare delivery system, noting that a world-class facility backed by one of Pakistan’s most reputable health institutions would help expand access to quality care and strengthen research and medical training. He added that the teaching hospital is likely to attract top medical professionals, raise service standards, and open new avenues for specialized research within the capital.

Aziz Jan briefed the Chairman on AKU’s plans to deliver the highest standards of patient care, modern clinical infrastructure and a robust system for quality assurance. He said the university’s decades-long experience in running internationally recognised hospitals in Karachi, Nairobi and East Africa would directly benefit residents of Islamabad and adjoining areas.

Randhawa also expressed interest in exploring collaboration between CDA Hospital and AKU to improve healthcare services for CDA employees, saying such a partnership could become a new model for institutional healthcare management.

Aga Khan University, founded in 1983, is widely regarded as one of the region’s leading institutions for medical education, research and tertiary care. Its flagship Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi is the country’s only hospital accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), known for high-end diagnostics, advanced surgery and cutting-edge research. Over the years, AKU has developed a strong reputation for evidence-based care, professional training, and community health initiatives across Pakistan and East Africa. The proposed Islamabad hospital is part of the university’s broader expansion plan aimed at increasing access to high-quality healthcare and academic programmes.

Reaffirming full institutional backing, Randhawa said the CDA would facilitate all necessary processes to ensure the timely establishment of the Islamabad campus, noting that the project represents a significant step toward modernising the capital’s healthcare infrastructure.
