The Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has directed the Capital Development Authority to ensure strict adherence to quality standards and fast track completion of the long delayed family suites project at Parliament Lodges. During his visit to the construction site he emphasised that members of Parliament have faced accommodation shortages for years and that timely completion of the new 104 family suites and servant quarters is now essential.
The Speaker reviewed progress on the under construction model family suites and expressed concern over the project’s prolonged delay. The initiative was originally launched in 2011 and scheduled for completion in 2013. However it remained stalled for more than a decade due to administrative, financial and contractual issues that hindered consistent work.
At the formal request of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif approved immediate release of the required funds to revive the project. This intervention removed long standing financial bottlenecks and allowed construction activities to resume after many years of inactivity. Officials confirmed that the renewed funding stream has significantly improved on site mobilisation.
The Speaker highlighted that the revival of the project reflects a strong commitment to improving the working and residential environment for parliamentarians. He stated that any further delay would not be acceptable and instructed all responsible agencies to maintain continuous oversight. He also stressed that construction quality must not be compromised under any circumstances.
During the inspection he appreciated the improved pace of work but urged the Capital Development Authority to ensure that project milestones are met within the newly established timelines. He also directed the supervisory teams to ensure daily monitoring of progress. The Speaker reiterated that the project is a priority and must be delivered in line with modern standards.
Under the direct supervision of the Speaker construction is now underway with renewed focus, adequate funding and strengthened coordination between relevant government departments. The project once completed will address long pending accommodation needs for members of Parliament and improve overall residential infrastructure within Parliament Lodges.
