ISLAMABAD: Senator Tallal Chaudhry has rejected what he described as misleading social media campaigns against development projects in Islamabad, saying facts related to tree-cutting and green cover are being distorted.
In a statement, the senator said Islamabad’s green cover stands at around 25 per cent, which he noted is higher than many major cities of the country. He said criticism of infrastructure schemes ignores the capital’s planned urban framework and environmental safeguards.
Responding to objections over development in Sector I-8, Chaudhry said the project involves better utilisation of existing park space and does not amount to eliminating the park. He said the initiative is being wrongly portrayed as a purely commercial venture.
The senator said that during the 2024 monsoon season, the Capital Development Authority planted around ten times more trees than those removed, adding that plantation is carried out alongside road construction, plazas and median development.
He said Islamabad’s development, modernisation and environmental protection would continue in parallel, urging the public not to fall for what he termed misinformation surrounding civic projects.
