ISLAMABAD: At a time when the country continues to grapple with a persistent resource crunch, state institutions appear to be pressing ahead with avoidable expenditures, as the Capital Development Authority has floated tenders worth around Rs5 million for the procurement of kitchen appliances and installation of air conditioners at residences allotted to two Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi.

According to official documents, the civic agency has issued two separate tenders one for the procurement of kitchen-related equipment at the official residence of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, and another for the installation of air conditioners at Residence No. 16 in the Judges Enclave, Islamabad, allotted to Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan.

The tenders reflect a tentative cost estimate of Rs3,053,231 for the installation of air conditioners at Justice Afghan’s residence, while Rs1,549,629 has been earmarked for kitchen appliances at the Chief Justice’s official residence.

Officials of the concerned formations in the CDA confirmed that the tenders had been floated as part of routine maintenance and furnishing of judges’ residences, which are classified as state lodges. They added that such expenditures are processed in line with the Federal Government’s entitlement schedule for state-allotted accommodations.

The tenders invite bids from registered suppliers for the supply, delivery, and installation of the specified equipment, with the estimated cost valid up to January 2, 2026.

Meanwhile, the CDA is also set to carry out electrification works at Office No. 307 in the Supreme Court Building, at an estimated cost of Rs842,908.
