ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary panel has expressed serious concern over persistent delays in housing projects managed by the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority, urging the authority to expedite ongoing work. FGEHA, operating under the Ministry of Housing and Works, is primarily responsible for developing residential projects for government employees, but its schemes are facing significant delays, affecting both allottees and the authority financially.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works, chaired by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, reviewed the status of federal housing and development projects at the Parliament Lodges. The committee noted that delays in completion were eroding public trust and increasing the burden on government employees awaiting their allotments.
The Director General of FGEHA briefed the committee on the progress of key projects, including Skyline Apartments, Kashmir Avenue Apartments, G-13 and G-14/1 Apartments, Green Enclave phases one and two, G-15/3, and sectors F-14 and F-15. The committee also received updates from the Pakistan Housing Authority on Sectors I-12/1 and I-16, highlighting infrastructure development and completion status.
To ensure better coordination, the panel directed FGEHA to hold a joint meeting with the Capital Development Authority, Pakistan Housing Authority, and Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad. The focus will be on improving planning, defining responsibilities, sharing services, and ensuring seamless project execution along with proper cleanliness and sanitation management.
The committee also emphasized revisiting allotment policies for employees transferred from Quetta, Karachi, and Peshawar to Islamabad. Transparency, equity, and adherence to established procedures were highlighted as priorities for housing allocation and standard operating procedures.
A sub-committee was constituted under MNAs Malik Ibrar Ahmad and Anjum Ageel Khan, with Dr. Darshan as a member, to address unresolved issues such as pending land payments, compensation, balloting, and stalled projects including Green Enclave Bhara Kahu, Kashmir Apartments, Lifestyle Afro Apartments, and Skyline Apartments in Chaklala. The panel called on FGEHA to restore public confidence through timely project completion and improved governance.
