The Punjab Small Dam Organisation has finalized a strategic plan to construct Chirah Dam with the aim of supplying 28 million gallons of water per day to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The dam is proposed to be built on the Soan River near Lehtrar Road and is designed to address the increasing water scarcity caused by rapid population growth and urban development in the region.

According to the approved framework the total water supply from Chirah Dam will be equally divided between Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Each city will receive 14 MGD ensuring a balanced and sustainable distribution system that supports domestic and commercial water requirements in both urban centers.

The Punjab Small Dam Organisation will oversee the construction of Chirah Dam while the Water and Sanitation Agency Rawalpindi will be responsible for installing a modern filtration plant near the dam site. This facility will ensure that the supplied water meets required health and safety standards before distribution to consumers.

Senior officials stated that the Chirah Dam project is a critical component of long term water resource planning for the twin cities. Upon receiving formal approval from the Planning and Development Department the project is expected to significantly strengthen Rawalpindi’s water supply network and reduce dependence on existing stressed sources.

The initiative is being developed with a focus on efficiency durability and environmental sustainability. Modern engineering practices will be applied to ensure reliable water storage controlled release and long term operational stability of the dam and its associated infrastructure.

Authorities have emphasized strict adherence to approved technical specifications quality standards and project timelines. Additional manpower and resources will be deployed where required to avoid delays. The Chirah Dam project is expected to play a vital role in securing uninterrupted water supply for Rawalpindi and Islamabad in the coming years.
