RAWALPINDI ISLAMABAD: The Water and Sanitation Agency has moved into full emergency mode after intermittent rainfall since last night triggered concerns of urban flooding across the twin cities, with rapid response teams deployed to manage the situation.
Managing Director Azizullah Khan said WASA has activated a high alert across Rawalpindi and Islamabad, positioning field staff and heavy machinery in low lying areas to ensure swift drainage and prevent water accumulation.
WASA teams are actively clearing water from critical نقاط including Liaquat Bagh, Committee Chowk underpass, Murree Road and Sadiqabad, where rainwater buildup typically disrupts traffic and daily life. Continuous monitoring and drainage operations are being carried out to maintain normal flow.
According to WASA data, rainfall has been recorded at Saidpur 18 millimetres, PMD 16 millimetres, Golra and Pirwadhai 15 millimetres each, Katarian 14 millimetres and Chaklala 13 millimetres. Despite the steady showers, WASA confirmed that water levels in Leh Nullah remain within safe limits.
Following directives from the managing director, WASA field officers are personally supervising operations on ground, ensuring immediate response to any emerging situation while maintaining strict vigilance over vulnerable نقاط.
WASA has urged citizens to cooperate by avoiding dumping waste in drains and not opening manhole covers, warning that such actions can worsen flooding risks. Residents have been advised to contact the WASA helpline in case of emergencies as the agency remains on round the clock alert.
