RAWALPINDI: A major public health initiative has been launched as the Punjab government begins installing 1,180 water filtration plants across Rawalpindi division to tackle drinking water issues and improve access to safe water.
The project, led by the Punjab Clean Water Authority, covers six districts including Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Chakwal, Talagang and Jhelum, with a total investment of Rs6.3 billion. In Rawalpindi district alone, 219 plants will be installed across four tehsils, targeting completion by June 30, 2026.
Officials said each filtration plant will serve around 5,000 residents, with different technologies deployed based on water quality. Reverse osmosis units for brackish areas, freshwater treatment plants and ultrafiltration systems will be installed to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable drinking water for thousands of households.
