RAWALPINDI: A major negligence scandal has surfaced at the busy Hamilton Road project site, where officials of the Water and Sanitation Agency have been booked for endangering public safety during ongoing construction work.

Police registered a case against an assistant director, a tehsildar and other staff members after alarming lapses were reported at the underground drain project. The FIR was lodged following an on site inspection that revealed a complete absence of safety measures despite heavy public movement in the area.

According to the complaint filed by a patwari, the construction site lacked essential protections including warning signs, barricades, reflectors and safety walls. The open excavation posed a serious threat to pedestrians, motorists and workers, particularly in one of the city’s busiest commercial zones.

The situation worsened when a minor landslide occurred at the site, raising fears of potential accidents and damage to property. Officials warned that such unchecked conditions could lead to a major incident if immediate corrective steps are not taken.

Authorities confirmed that the case has been registered under relevant legal provisions related to public endangerment and negligence. However, no arrests have been made so far as the offences fall under bailable sections, allowing the accused temporary relief.

Residents, traders and commuters have expressed growing frustration over disrupted movement and unsafe conditions on Hamilton Road. The incident has intensified calls for stricter oversight of urban development projects, as citizens demand accountability and immediate action to ensure public safety.
