ISLAMABAD: In a high-level meeting that signaled a major push to modernize Pakistan’s road infrastructure, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan chaired an important session of the National Highway Authority and approved key decisions aimed at improving connectivity, reducing congestion and preserving national heritage.

During the meeting, officials presented a detailed briefing on the strategic road project linking Ring Road to Manga. The minister reviewed the proposed alignment and directed authorities to accelerate planning so that the route can ease traffic flow and support commercial activity across central Punjab.

The most significant decision was the approval to widen both sides of the M4 Motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad. The existing two-lane carriageway will be upgraded to three lanes in each direction to accommodate rising traffic volumes and improve travel efficiency on one of the country’s busiest motorway corridors.

Mr Khan issued strict instructions that work on the M4 expansion must be completed within one month of its formal launch. He stressed that timely execution, transparency and quality construction would be non-negotiable, adding that modern highways are essential to economic growth and safer transportation.

In a symbolic and culturally significant announcement, the minister also approved the construction of a monument dedicated to Mai Janda at the junction of M1 Motorway, M2 Motorway and Airport Road. The monument will honor a respected historical figure and create a distinctive landmark at one of Pakistan’s most prominent gateways.

Officials said the decisions reflect the government’s broader vision to upgrade infrastructure, strengthen regional connectivity and celebrate national heritage. The initiatives are expected to boost trade, cut travel times and deliver long-term benefits to commuters and businesses across the country.
