TAXILA: Hassanabdal is on the verge of a historic transformation as authorities enter the final phase of a multi million rupees beautification and urban facelift project aimed at turning the sacred city into a world class tourist destination ahead of the upcoming Sikh pilgrimage season.

Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza said the ambitious redevelopment initiative would completely change the outlook of Hassanabdal and position it among Pakistan’s most attractive religious tourism hubs. He made these remarks while reviewing progress on various development sites along with senior officials from municipal, roads and public health departments.

Officials said the project is designed to modernise civic infrastructure while preserving the city’s deep religious and cultural identity. Hassanabdal holds immense significance for the Sikh community because of the presence of Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, one of the holiest Sikh shrines outside India. Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from India, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States visit the city every year for Baisakhi celebrations and other major religious events.

The district administration said one of the key highlights of the project is the concealment of utility infrastructure to remove visual clutter and improve safety standards across the city. Decorative entrance gates are also being constructed at major access points to give visitors a grand welcome upon arrival in Hassanabdal.

Authorities are simultaneously upgrading roads with modern tuff tiles to improve traffic flow and pedestrian convenience. A new food park is being developed in the public square to provide organised and hygienic dining facilities for tourists, while a separate food street at Lalarukh Park is expected to become a major attraction for local and international visitors.

Officials believe the project will not only uplift the city’s appearance but also strengthen Pakistan’s image as a peaceful and tourism friendly country. The administration hopes the massive facelift will boost religious tourism, create economic opportunities for local businesses and place Hassanabdal firmly on the international tourism map.
