A Chinese construction company has been selected for a $100 million project to rehabilitate sections of National Highway N-5 in Sindh. The project is being implemented by the National Highway Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Communications, with financial support from the Chinese government.
China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. (CSCEC) has been selected for the project, and the contract has been prepared for signing. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project on February 27, 2026.
Project to Cover 66 Kilometres Between Hala and Moro
The project will cover four sections of N-5, with a combined length of 66 kilometres between Hala in Matiari district and Moro in Naushahro Feroze district.
Pakistan and China signed the $100 million grant agreement on December 31, 2020. The project is planned to take 24 months from its official commencement.
The rehabilitation aims to improve damaged road sections and make travel safer and smoother for motorists and transport operators. The highway is an important route for moving passengers and goods between cities, commercial centres, industrial areas and agricultural markets.
Expected Benefits for Transport and Trade
Better road conditions are expected to help reduce vehicle operating costs and travel delays. The improvements could also support the movement of goods, strengthen supply chains and benefit businesses and communities along the route.
National Highway N-5 is one of Pakistan’s major transport corridors, linking key cities and supporting trade and economic activity. Its rehabilitation is expected to improve connectivity and make road transport more efficient.
The project also reflects continued cooperation between Pakistan and China in improving the country’s transport infrastructure.
