The Capital Development Authority has completed the main construction work of the T Chowk Flyover in a record ninety days finishing the project nearly two months ahead of the original deadline. The early completion is being seen as a major boost to Islamabad’s traffic management and infrastructure development.

The one point one kilometre long flyover has been constructed at the busy junction of GT Road and Islamabad Expressway at a cost of Rs one point four billion. The project aims to ensure smooth traffic flow particularly for vehicles entering Islamabad from the Lahore side and to reduce chronic congestion at the intersection.

According to the approved PC One the flyover was scheduled for completion by February nineteen. However the CDA team in coordination with the construction company completed the main structure within three months. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on September twelve.

A CDA official said the project is now ready for inauguration and may be opened to traffic this week after completion of minor finishing works. Similar to the ongoing Shaheen Chowk project the T Chowk Flyover experienced a cost increase of up to fifteen percent during construction.

The official explained that the increase was within permissible limits under PPRA rules and was necessitated by the addition of an extra at grade lane and construction of U turns to facilitate motorists. He stressed that the revised scope was approved to improve traffic movement and ensure public convenience.

Meanwhile the Shaheen Chowk underpass at the junction of Ninth Avenue and Khyaban e Iqbal is also nearing completion and is expected to be ready this month. Though concerns were raised about revisions in project scope officials acknowledged CDA’s performance in completing both projects in record time. The success has been credited to strong leadership from the prime minister interior minister Mohsin Naqvi CDA chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa and the project team.
