RAWALPINDI: Murree witnessed an extraordinary influx of tourists during the Eidul Azha holidays as more than 60,000 vehicles entered the hill station within the first three days of the festival, putting immense pressure on its road network while authorities worked round the clock to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Despite the massive rush, traffic remained largely under control due to an extensive management plan implemented by the City Traffic Police Murree. Officials said hundreds of officers were deployed across major roads and tourist hotspots to prevent congestion and ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles throughout the holiday period.
Chief Traffic Officer Murree Munir Ahmed Hashmi said tourists continued arriving on Friday, the third day of Eid, keeping traffic volumes exceptionally high. He credited the success of the operation to effective planning and strict enforcement measures, adding that nearly 200 traffic wardens were performing duties on key routes across the resort town.
The CTO urged visitors to follow traffic regulations, avoid driving in double lanes and refrain from improper parking practices that often trigger road blockages. He advised motorists to use only designated parking areas to help authorities maintain traffic discipline and reduce inconvenience for fellow travelers.
Officials reported that no major traffic incident disrupted vehicular movement during the Eid holidays. The traffic management strategy helped keep Murree’s busy roads functional despite record tourist arrivals. Authorities also encouraged visitors to use the traffic helpline for guidance and assistance during their stay.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 remained on high alert across Rawalpindi district, responding to 513 emergencies during Eidul Azha. The emergency service handled 107 road traffic accidents, 30 fire incidents and hundreds of medical emergencies. More than 100 people were injured while two fatalities were reported. Rescue teams successfully provided timely assistance to 464 victims, highlighting the continued pressure on emergency services during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
