RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has approved a Rs1.25 billion package for road infrastructure development in PP-4, aiming to improve connectivity and ease mobility across several key localities of the Rawalpindi district.
According to official sources, the projects will be executed during the current fiscal year under the provincial Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The funding will cover rehabilitation, widening, and carpeting of major and link roads, in addition to new drainage systems and safety measures along congested routes.
The road network in PP-4 connects rural peripheries to the main Rawalpindi urban corridor and serves as a vital link for goods transport and daily commuters. Persistent traffic bottlenecks and deteriorating road conditions have drawn repeated complaints from residents and transporters, prompting the provincial government to prioritise this package.
Officials said tendering and contractor mobilisation will begin in November following the completion of technical assessments by the Rawalpindi Highway Division. Once launched, the projects are expected to generate hundreds of short-term construction jobs and provide long-term benefits through smoother inter-town travel and reduced vehicle operating costs.
Local representatives hailed the allocation as a “critical investment” in an area that has lagged behind in road upgrades compared to central Rawalpindi.
