ISLAMABAD: Serious concerns have been raised over the deteriorating condition of Parliament Lodges, with lawmakers describing the facility as neglected, insecure and unfit for proper residential use despite significant public spending.
During a Senate committee meeting, members highlighted alarming issues including poor hygiene, lack of basic maintenance, shortage of staff and weak security arrangements. The situation has triggered criticism over administrative failure and misuse of allocated funds.
Officials acknowledged the challenges while briefing the committee, but lawmakers questioned why essential services such as cleaning and upkeep remain inadequate despite consistent budgetary allocations for the lodges.
Illegal occupation of rooms also emerged as a major issue, with members calling for strict action against unauthorised occupants. Concerns were raised that weak enforcement has further contributed to the decline of the facility’s condition.
The committee was informed that construction of new Parliament Lodges is underway and expected to be completed by July 2026, offering hope for improved residential infrastructure for lawmakers in the near future.
Committee Chairman Faisal Saleem Rehman directed the Capital Development Authority to submit a detailed report on maintenance and security, stressing urgent reforms to restore standards and ensure accountability.
